I like to think of a doula as a birth sister. She is protective (but not overbearing), comforting and knowledgeable. She knows you and listens to you and helps you get what you want and need. She gives you space when you need it, she gives you hugs or massages when you need them, cooks you food when you're hungry and helps you to the bathroom when you need to pee.

I love being a doula sister to all the amazing women who give birth. It is the most important job in the world and I'm lucky I get to do it. I have a calm disposition, an intuitive touch (really I am good at massages), and a great sense of humor (puns are my favorite - I love playing with words).

Here is a little Bio written about me:
Sarah Monsen came to California by way of Idaho in 2002 and has been attending home births as a doula in the San Francisco East Bay area since January 2014. She has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of California San Diego in Sociocultural Anthropology, with extensive study in Biology and cultural birthing practices. Her love of the human body brought her to pursue her interests in naturopathy and nutrition, and she has extensive knowledge of paleo, gluten-free/dairy-free, and vegetarian diets. She is passionate about good pre- and postnatal nutrition for both mama and baby. Sarah has attended Cornerstone doula training since April 2013 and is constantly working to expand her knowledge to provide the very best care for her expecting mamas and their babies. She is a certified Heart and Hands birth doula, certified postpartum doula (CPD) and is neonatal resuscitation (NRP)- and CPR-certified.
When Sarah is not in her kitchen cooking up nutritious meals for her mamas, you can find her hiking with her dog Nugget or tending her garden. She is passionate about nature, travel, family, birth and the power of the human body.

I hope we sound like a great fit! I look forward to hearing from you.
