Kara McCall, President, Class Coordinatorkara

Kara is a birth doula and non-profit consultant. She joined the board of BirthWays to merge these two professions and is honored to be part of such a supportive and impactful organization. Kara joined the board in 2016.


Rachel MonasRachel Monas, Vice President

Rachel is a Postpartum and Birth Doula living and working in Berkeley and the greater East Bay area. She is excited to serve our community of parents and babies through BirthWays’ offerings. Rachel joined the Board in 2014 and served as Treasurer prior to being Vice President.


Shoshana Friedman-HawkShoshana Friedman-Hawk, Secretary, Volunteer Doula Program Coordinator

A Berkeley native, Shoshana joined the Board of Directors in 2013 as a way to reach out to the families in our community and provide needed support. Shoshana came to birth work after an experience attending a meeting with a good friend and her Doula. She realized that birth work encompassed so many aspects of her personality. The caring, nurturing and supportive side, the teacher, educator and life-long learning side, as well as the understanding that there are times when the best thing is to be quiet and just hold the space for someone to have their own personal experience. Dantia Hudson, Treasurerdantiahudson

Dantia Hudson is a Birth and Postpartum Doula, Breastfeeding Educator, and Yoga Instructor. She lives in Oakland and works throughout the Bay Area. Dantia is passionate about research, teaching, and all things pregnancy and babies, skills she enjoys sharing with the BirthWays community. She currently teaches Breastfeeding classes at BirthWays and has been member of the BirthWays Board since 2016.

Stacia BiltekoffStacia Biltekoff

Stacia has been on the board of BirthWays since 2006, serving as Referral Line Coordinator, Publications Co-Coordinator, Vice President, and President from 2011-2016. She is committed to providing unconditional support to pregnant, laboring and postpartum women and their families through her work as a Birth and Postpartum Doula, Childbirth Educator and support group facilitator.  Of course her most important role is being a mama!

Lori has been a member of the BirthWays Board since 2014.




Julie JohnsonJulie Johnson

Julie Johnson has been in the field of education for over fifteen years as a teacher, facilitator, and researcher. She has taught secondary school students in New York and California, provided professional development for teachers and administrators, and led support groups for adolescents and new parents. She is a certified Parenting by Connection instructor through Hand in Hand Parenting and a Certified Lactation Educator. Julie currently conducts Parenting by Connection classes and consultations for parents throughout the Bay Area. She has been a member of the BirthWays Board since 2014.

Anna has been a member of the BirthWays Board since 2016.






Aimee Ruiz, L.Ac.

Aimee joined the BirthWays Board of Directors in 2014 to connect in community with others around supporting women and families in the East Bay. She attended her first birth in 2011 and has been passionate about improving the birth experience for women ever since. Aimee is a licensed acupuncturist in Oakland and Walnut Creek and specializes in women’s health, fertility, pregnancy, birth, and postpartum care. You can learn more about Aimee here:


alisaAlisa Nowik Stern, Psy.D.

Alisa has been a member of the BirthWays Board since 2016. She is a psychotherapist who specializes in maternal mental health and perinatal mental health issues with women and couples. Alisa was born and raised in Berkeley and she has two children ages 17 and 8. She served on the Board of Blossom Birth while living on the peninsula and now she is excited to be a part of the BirthWays Board and community helping moms and families.



Advisory Board Members

Rebecca HusbandRebecca Husband, ICCE, CMT, Advisory Board Member
Rebecca has been involved with BirthWays since 1999.  During this time she has served as the referral line coordinator, publications coordinator, treasurer, class coordinator and President of the BirthWays Board.  She is a mother of two boys and brings to BirthWays 11 years of experience in the birth world as a Birth Doula, Massage Therapist, Childbirth Educator and Newborn Massage Instructor.  She is dedicated to helping women and families gain the knowledge and resources that allow them to make informed decisions.
